is content validation?

is content validation?

It’s the quality check that makes sure every product detail—name, image, size, color—is accurate, complete, and trustworthy before it goes live. Think of it as the final filter between confusion and conversion.

Accuracy Check
Ensures all product details—like brand, size, color, and images—are correct and consistent.

Completeness Review
Flags missing or incomplete information that could confuse buyers or hurt sales.

Trust Builder
Verifies data before it goes live to maintain customer trust and improve conversion rates.

Here’s Why

I Still Redesigned it

I Still Redesigned it

When I joined the project, WALL*E felt like an old machine—critical, but forgotten.
Category Leads were stuck in a system with no visibility, no tracking, and no clear rules.
They relied on gut feeling, not data. The UI was cluttered, the workflow confusing, and mistakes were common.

I realised this wasn’t just a design flaw—it was costing trust, time, and revenue.
This wasn’t about fixing screens. It was about giving people clarity, control, and the confidence that their work mattered.

The People Keeping walmart.com Clean

WALL•E supports a diverse set of internal Walmart teams, all working to ensure that every product on Walmart.com meets the highest content quality standards:

Category Leads

Content Analysts

Vendor Teams

Program Managers

QC Reviewers
ensure consistency and accuracy across content touchpoints

Support Ops
resolve roadblocks in content flow or data ingestion

My focus:

I was specifically assigned to redesign the experience for the Category Lead, who needed better visibility, control, and efficiency to manage workloads and track progress.

But Why Content Validation Frustrates It’s Users?

But Why Content Validation Frustrates It’s Users?

No Clear Validation Criteria

Lack of clearly defined success/failure indicators made it difficult to understand if a product’s content passed validation.

Inefficient Workflow Navigation

The interface was cluttered, with no logical flow between tasks—users often got lost or had to retrace steps.

Missing Visual Hierarchy

All product content looked the same—no prioritization of errors, warnings, or missing data. Everything had the same visual weight.

No Progress Tracking or Audit Trail

Users couldn’t easily track which SKUs had been validated, who validated them, or what changes were made—resulting in confusion and duplicate work.

Outdated UI

The design was not only visually outdated but lacked basic UX practices, leading to a steep learning curve for new team members.

Limited Filtering and Sorting

Users couldn’t filter or search effectively, making it hard to prioritize or batch SKUs based on urgency, category, or team.

Lack of Error Prevention Mechanisms

There were no safeguards or real-time validation prompts, so mistakes often slipped through unnoticed.

Human errors due to long scrolls

Long horizontal scroll lading to inconsistent data transfer and unwanted human errors.

Current

Current User journey for the lead based on the analysis

Allocate items for validation.

Problem- Don’t know about workload for each individual

Tracking and reviewing items

Problem- Can only check . priority based on understanding and not data validity

Problem- Have no access to check progress of allotted task for other individuals

Allocate first and second level validation to respective members

Problem- Have no visibility of items post allocation and individual workload

How Might We…

…empower category leads and analysts to seamlessly allocate, track, and close validation tasks—without switching tabs, guessing workloads, or chasing data?
Can we replace chaos with clarity, manual effort with visibility, and fragmented modules with a unified, intuitive experience?

Point 2

Point 3

Accessing a dashboard that shows key data: current volumes, backlogs, team workloads, key reports, and assignment status.

Add a programme that we will work on and can assign it to my teammates

I can ingest data in Wall E independently, without any support from Tech team

My Interaction with teams become easy as I can assign and track their work at one stop shop

To get a holistic view,

I can view reports as how my week looks-like and helps me to have my own notes within reports and plans for future.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) can be done at ease, using new item track functionality, which allows me to view content on at a granular level

Sharing content with them happens within the tool and I also receive notifications when major milestones of assigned tasks are achieved.

Learnings

Learnings

Designing this deepened my UX design expertise, particularly in understanding the intricacies of online quality inspection during order fulfilment to create user-friendly interfaces, benefiting from years of experience.

Legacy ≠ Low Impact

Redesigning a legacy tool taught me that even unglamorous, internal systems hold massive potential to transform productivity and trust. I learned how to uncover high-impact opportunities in places most designers overlook.

Micro-Fixes = Macro Wins

Reducing a scroll, grouping information, or clarifying status indicators might seem small, but these “micro-interventions” created real joy and efficiency for users. It deepened my belief in thoughtful detail.

Data-Backed Design, Always

From usability testing to heuristic evaluation, every choice I made was validated through feedback, not assumption. It made my process faster, smarter, and more defensible.

Design is Strategy, Not Just Screens

This project wasn’t just about layouts—it was about building workflows, enabling decisions, and aligning with Walmart’s broader business goals. I sharpened my ability to think systemically and design beyond the surface.

Stakeholder Alignment is UX Gold

Interviewing program managers, leads, and analysts showed me that true design success isn’t just user-centered—it’s stakeholder-aligned. Speaking their language helped me earn trust and drive adoption.
